Logan Rembish and Dom Napoletano tossed a combined no hitter and led St Paul to an 8-0 win over Watertown Monday afternoon. The pair struck out 13 and allowed only two batters to reach base safely, one by walk and one by error. Starter Alex Cronk took the loss for Watertown.
For the first three innings, the pitchers dominated the game. Cronk allowed only two baserunners on hits while Rembish was perfect.
In the top of the fourth with two outs, Coby Dagata singled. Seth Meuer's ground ball should have ended the inning, but it was bobbled and the error extended the inning for St Paul. Keaton Kroll walked to load the base and Mike DeRosa singled to drive in the first run of the game. Brian Anderson followed with a two RBI single and St Paul led 3-0. Then Jay DeRosa struck out on a pitch in the dirt and beat the catcher's throw to first base. On the play, his brother, Mike, scored from third with the fourth unearned run of the inning.
St Paul added one on a SAC fly by Dagata in the fifth. In the sixth, consecutive hits by Jay DeRosa (single), Rembish (RBI double), and Cal Chance (RBI single) made it 7-0. The final run came in the top of the seventh when Kroll led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on pinch hitter Isaac Leon's SAC fly to center. The final was 8-0.
In a marathon game that lasted over four hours, Torrington defeated St Paul 3-2 with a walk-off win in the bottom of the 13th inning. Reliever Dom DiBecelle allowed no hits and struck out four in the final two innings to pick up the win. Dom Napoletano took the loss for St Paul.
St Paul scored its two runs in the top of the first. With one out, Logan Rembish walked, Cal Chance singled and AJ Corrado walked to load the bases. Coby Dagata followed with a two RBI single, and St Paul had an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, consecutive singles by Dom DiBecelle, Logan Tucciarone, Will Parkhouse (RBI) and Jack McCoy (RBI) produced two runs to tie the score at 2-2.
For the next 11 1/2 innings, neither team was able to score another run. Each team had numerous opportunities with men in scoring position, but neither team could get the big hit.
In the bottom of the 13th, Aidan Colucci led off with a bunt single. On the next pitch, he stole second. An errant pick-off throw allowed him to advance to third. Then, John Pergola slapped a ball through the drawn in infield, and the game was over.
St. Paul will return to the diamond on Friday against Woodland at home at 4 p.m.
St. Paul Softball
Watertown and St. Paul battled defensively for six innings on Monday. The only two runs scored in the first six innings were on solo home runs. Then, Watertown's Nadia Andarowski homered to help her own cause in the top of the seventh and Watertown added three more runs off freshman Breyona Demora.
St. Paul battled back in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases before the final out was made. St Paul out-hit Watertown 10 to eight with Taylor Williams, Julia Lawson and Stella Boucino each collecting two hits for the St. Paul Falcons.
Watertown improved to 5-1 while St. Paul dropped to 4-3
St. Paul claimed their fifth win Wednesday against Torrington.
