Anthony D. Sassu

Anthony “Tony” Sassu, 69, of Bristol, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Peter G. and Mary (Pisoni) Sassu.

Tony was a devoted husband, admired father, and pillar of strength to his family. Throughout his life, he exemplified unwavering dedication, working tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. Tony recently retired from The Hartford Insurance Company. Many people remember Tony from working at Chic Miller’s Chevrolet and as the owner of United Luggage where he was a proud shoemaker. Tony found great joy in having Sunday dinners with his family, washing his cars, tending his lawn, and rooting for the Bristol Eastern Lancers wrestling team.

Tony leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, friendship, hard-work, resilience, and corny dad jokes that will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.
He lives on through his beautiful, loving wife, Valerie, his PITA kids Eric, Stephanie, Craig, and Amanda, his treasured sons-in-law Peyton Soucy and David Wozniak, his sweetheart daughters-in-law Maria Cebula and Mallory Kloss, and the best part of his day, his granddaughter, Nora Valerie. Tony loved his grand-pups (the only relatives he had that ever listened to him): Ivory, Judy, Remi and Huey. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Kathryn Sassu, Mario and Beverly Sassu, Shirley Sassu, and many other cherished relatives, nieces, nephews, friends, and all those whose lives he touched with his welcoming heart.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Peter “Sonny” Sassu, his sister Joan DeNote, his nephew Dean Sassu, his mother-in-law Eunice Patnode, his cousin Salvatore Contini and his beloved grand-dog Stella.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11AM directly at St. Gregory Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol. Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol between 4PM and 8PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Tony’s name be made to the “ARF”, Animal Rescue Foundation, 366 Main Street Terryville, CT 06786.
