Karen Fort-Scott Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Denver Fort-Scott, 70 of Plainville, who peacefully departed this world surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, February 26, 2024 at THOCC- New Britain General Campus following a sudden illness. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Tary N. Scott, who predeceased her in 2020.

Karen was born on May 10, 1953 in New Britain daughter to the late Charles Fort Sr. and Clara (Hutchinson) Fort. She was raised in New Britain and Newington and graduated from Newington High School. Karen's passion for learning was evident in everything she did. Following high school graduation, Karen went on to graduate with her Bachelor and Master’s degree from CCSU and completed her 6th year in School Administration from University of Hartford. Her tireless commitment to her work inspired generations of educators and professionals, leaving a legacy that will endure for years to come. Her impact will be long remembered by those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.

Throughout her career, Karen served as an educator in multiple schools, imparting knowledge and wisdom to future generations. Her passion for teaching touched the lives of many, inspiring her students to reach their full potential and instilling in them a love for learning that would last a lifetime. She was a beloved math teacher at E.C. Goodwin Technical High School and worked her way up the totem pole, serving as a school administrator at A.I. Prince Technical High School and W.F. Kaynor Technical High School. She was a longtime member of Saint James Missionary Baptist Church in New Britain.

Outside of the classroom, Karen enjoyed group exercise classes at the YMCA and found solace and joy in the simplicity of gardening. Her green thumb could bring life and beauty to any plot of land, and she shared this passion with those around her. She loved going shopping, attending visual and performing arts events, cooking, and above all spending time surrounded by her family and friends or walks with the family dog, Dallas.

Karen's passion for life and her genuine kindness touched the lives of everyone she met, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Karen is survived by her son, Conrad Jr.; her daughter, Nicole and her husband, Michael; her son, Tary “TC” Jr. and his wife, Jessica; her grandchildren, Paige and Lola; her siblings, Kenny, Marie, Charles Jr., Lee, Vincent, and Gloria; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and friends.
