Opening Day at the American Clock & Watch Museum--FREE

After School Activities at the New England Carousel Museum

Looking for a fun and educational after school activity for your children this spring? Fire House Friends Club and Mix-it-Up return to the New England Carousel Museum on March 22nd! Firehouse Friends Club is a program for preschoolers and features a weekly story, safety topic, and age appropriate craft activity.

Mix-it-Up is designed for elementary school aged children and each week students will learn a new art technique or material. All art supplies are included and children who register in advance for the full program will receive a free sketch book. Both programs run every Wednesday for six weeks, with Firehouse Friends Club taking place 4:30-5:30 PM and Mix-it-Up taking place 5:30-6:30 PM.

The cost for Firehouse Friends Club is $7 per day or $30 for the whole series. Mix-it-Up is $12 per day or $60 for the whole series. Participants can register in advance for the entire program or attend as a drop-in on a weekly basis if there is space.

After School Activities at the New England Carousel Museum

Looking for a fun and educational after school activity for your children this spring? Fire House Friends Club and Mix-it-Up return to the New England Carousel Museum on March 22nd! Firehouse Friends Club is a program for preschoolers and features a weekly story, safety topic, and age appropriate craft activity.

Mix-it-Up is designed for elementary school aged children and each week students will learn a new art technique or material. All art supplies are included and children who register in advance for the full program will receive a free sketch book. Both programs run every Wednesday for six weeks, with Firehouse Friends Club taking place 4:30-5:30 PM and Mix-it-Up taking place 5:30-6:30 PM.

The cost for Firehouse Friends Club is $7 per day or $30 for the whole series. Mix-it-Up is $12 per day or $60 for the whole series. Participants can register in advance for the entire program or attend as a drop-in on a weekly basis if there is space.

“No Place Like Home” – the 76th Annual OM Show, will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 21st and 22nd at St. Paul Catholic High School.

In 1942, the Association staged its first annual show. This was an amateur talent show and was the only show of its kind in the area. It also became a leading community event in Bristol. Today it remains as the longest continuously running variety show in the USA and is also the organization’s major fundraiser.

The show has evolved over the years. Children have become a large part of the show. A show today includes on average 80 children with an average cast size of about 180 people. The shows include song and dance numbers with choruses, local dance studio performances and solo and duet numbers.

Tickets are $10 and $15 for the Matinee on Saturday, and $20 for the two evening performances on Friday and Saturday. Tickets may be obtained here: http://www.oldermembers.com/tickets/

Bristol Parks and Recreation Department presents the 66th Annual Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby for Bristol/Forestville youth – 13 years of age or younger.

There will be no fishing permitted at the lagoon until 7 a.m. All participants must first check in at the Page pavilion to receive a free “Fishing Derby Permit.” Permits will be issued starting at 6:30 a.m.

Participants are required to bring their own pole, one hook, one bobber, and legal bait (live bait may be used). Various prizes will be rewarded throughout the morning!

Calling all film buffs – here is your chance to understand how the movie industry affected us all. Part I of this program, presented by film historian Cortlandt Hull and film buff Bob Adamczyk, will concentrate on the origins of film from the turn of the century until the early 1940’s. From the silent era to sound, plus the development of Technicolor, and early special effects, such as stop motion animation. Segments shown on film, as well as video.


Then a second program on May 25th will concentrate on various film techniques including 3-D and wide screen formats from 1940 to the present. Cortlandt will talk about the technological advances made and show on screen those advances, while Bob will talk about the origins of the industry and how it affected America and the world.


Part I will be shown on April 27th at the Bristol Historical Society, 7:00 pm, refreshments will be served –cost is free to members, $5.00 to non-members.
