Free Parenting Workshops
Date: Thursday, March 01, 2018 Thru Date: Thursday, March 22, 2018 (Event Views: 2,275)

Free Parenting Workshop “Staying the Course” – Thursdays, March 1, 8, 15, 22 (6:30pm – 7:30pm)

Come and join us as Dr. Mary Larson, educator and family health specialist, presents (4) sessions that will provide parents with insights and practical helps for
“staying the course” of biblical parenting. The significant cultural challenges that our
society presents for parents today makes “staying the course” of biblical parenting a
challenge. Consequently, refreshing and strengthening your parenting skills
can provide personal encouragement and positive direction in raising godly children who
are mature and healthy despite the negativity of cultural influences.

Attending Staying the Course is a practical and helpful tool for parents to be encouraged and gain further insight into honoring God as you seek to raise your children according to biblical principles. Save the Dates! Come and be Encouraged! This workshop is free of charge.

Pasta Dinner Fundraiser to benefit Charity: water
Date: Saturday, March 03, 2018 (Event Views: 2,400)

Pasta Dinner Fundraiser to benefit Charity: water is being held on Saturday 3/3/18.

Saturday, March 3 at 5 PM - 7 PM

St. Gregory CCD Center
1043 Stafford Ave, Bristol, CT

Tickets are available at the door.

Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

We are having a Pasta Dinner Fundraiser to help Charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and we are looking for anyone who can help us. We need help selling Tickets and we need Raffle prizes for our event.

We will serve Ziti, Meatballs, Salad, Bread and Coffee

Adults: $10.00 donation, Kids (under 10): $5.00 donation

Location:
Harry C. Barnes Memorial Nature Center
175 Shrub Road
Bristol, CT 06010

Join us for a FREE Artist Reception featuring the art of Nigel Wynter. Nigel Wynter's work is greatly influenced by subject matter that most people would consider 'run of the mill' or mundane. He focuses on finding beauty in subjects that the casual observer would overlook.

Nigel considers Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth, and Richard Estes among his greatest influences. He works in a realistic style, mostly in Landscape and Still Life with some figurative work sprinkled in. His medium of choice is watercolor, but many of his pieces are rendered in oil. His formal Art training was at the School of Visual Arts in New York City majoring in Illustration.

During the 1980s and 1990s, he exhibited in various Juried Shows primarily in the Hudson Valley region of New York, receiving numerous awards and mixing in Illustration projects and private commissions along the way. He has been a member of the Mt. Vernon Art Association, the New Rochelle Art Association, and the Mamaroneck Artist's Guild. Since mid-2008, he has resumed painting full time after 21 years in the banking industry.

Since moving to Connecticut in 2007, Nigel has exhibited with the Stratford Artist's Guild in Stratford, CT, Bridgeport Arts Fest, and Open Studio Hartford in Hartford CT (annually, since November 2013) among others. His work can be found in many private collections throughout the United States and overseas.

Currently, Nigel is working on an extended series of sports portraiture using watercolor. Additionally, he is embarking on what he calls his 'Fire Truck' series, consisting of paintings honoring firefighters and their service. 'Law Enforcement' and 'Veterans' series are also in the works. He continues to accept commissions; renderings are done in Oil, Watercolor, Colored Pencil or Graphite.

A transplanted New Yorker, he and his wife Evangeline currently reside in Bristol, Connecticut.

Join Ginny Apple, Connecticut Certified Master Wildlife Conservationist, as she presents “Wildlife and Connecticut’s Changing Landscapes.” Landscapes are dynamic ecosystems. Connecticut’s landscape has changed through the centuries, from almost all forest in the 1600s, to cleared land by the mid-1800s. Presently, Connecticut is about 60 percent forest. As the landscape changed in Connecticut so did the wildlife populations that depend on the land for habitat. This presentation describes the history of Connecticut’s landscape and the impact on wildlife populations.

A native Texan, Ginny Apple was one of the first full-time women sportswriters in the country, who left the field mid-career to pursue a path in communications/public relations. Through the years, she has hiked, climbed, kayaked, skied and poked her way through the outdoors and developed a passion for all things natural.

General Volunteer Orientation with Sidewalker Training
Date: Sunday, March 11, 2018 (Event Views: 1,666)

General Volunteer Orientation with Sidewalker Training

March 11 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Volunteers are the backbone of the Shepard Meadows programs. Our team of volunteers offer thousands of hours each year to help our riders and incredible herd of equines be happy, safe and reaching their goals. Volunteers work in the barn, in the arena and in our offices.

Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra
Date: Sunday, March 18, 2018 (Event Views: 1,301)

Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra

March 18 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The orchestra will be joined by the Bristol Eastern High School Choral Department in performances of works by three living Connecticut composers. Neely Bruce’s “Introduction and Grand March: An Orchestral Homage to the late W.A. Mozart of Salzburg and the late C.E. Ives of Danbury” is inspired by the comic possibilities of the music of Mozart and Ives. Richard Donahue’s “Our Fathers Built this Goodly House” is in the tradition of New England hymnody. Thomas Duffy’s Overture 1776 is modeled on Tchaikovsky’s Overture 1812, replacing Russian and French themes with England and American. All three compositions in their own way very much bear the New England stamp and in their background more than a bit of Charles Ivesian influence.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. They are available at http://NutmegSymphony.org and can be ordered by mail to P.O. Box 2154, Bristol, CT 06011-2154 or purchased at the door.

Giving blood takes less time than it takes to watch a single basketball game. Make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting http://redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Upcoming blood donations opportunities in Bristol in March:

3/26/18: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m., Hillside Community Church, 435 Broad Street, Bristol

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at http://redcrossblood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.

Many women fought against getting the vote, but none with more charm, prettier clothes—and less logic—than the fictional speaker in Someone Must Wash the Dishes: An Anti-Suffrage Satire.
Cheerfully single-minded, our guest speaker contradicts every point she makes as she crusades to preserve the Home and save the Nation from anarchy!

Marie Jenney Howe’s satiric “An Anti-Suffrage Monologue” was published in 1913, by the National American Woman Suffrage Association (precursor of the League of Women Voters).

No charge. RSVP online, in-person, or by calling: (860) 584-7787 x 2023.
