Join us as the “Innkeepers at Morgan's Tavern” prepare an authentic Colonial-style Thanksgiving feast with all the trimmings! Participants can enjoy convivial refreshment (mead, beer, wine & cider) and be enchanted by an assortment of colonial demonstrations & reenactments, legendary storytelling, tomahawk throwing, various colonial artisans, games, music and much more. Colonial attire optional! The setting for the event will be on the teaching farm of the 280-acre preserve.

Indian Rock Nature Preserve, established in 1977, has educated hundreds of thousands of children and adults about nature and the environmental since its inception. Proceeds from this event help fund Indian Rock's educational programs.

The ACE Awards will be presented at an annual fundraising dinner on Saturday, November 3, 2018 and will include a social hour (bring your own libation), buffet dinner, an awards ceremony, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and a great musical performance produced by Ken Ferris and Friends.

A Salute to our Veterans - Bristol Brass and Wind Ensemble concert  (162 Views)


Veterans Day, Sunday November 11, 2018, Bristol Brass and Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Richard Theriault will present, “A Salute to our Veterans”. The concert will take place at 4 p.m. at the Chippens Hill Middle School, 551 Peacedale Street in Bristol, Connecticut. It is open to the public; admission is free.
Highlights of the show will include longtime fan and band supporter, former Mayor William T. Stortz narrating a James Swearingen piece titled “Within These Hallowed Halls”, a slide show prepared by Debra Mace, a member of our trombone section, of Bristol veterans and memorials, will be shown while the band performs “Whispers From Beyond” by Rossano Galante and what veterans concert would be complete without a few marches including marches by John Williams, Eric Coates, Karl L. King and John Philip Sousa.
The evening will also feature vocals by the Brass and Wind Choir, Dave Carlson, Mary Lynn Gagnon, Kevin McCauley and Jena Doolittle. Current Bristol Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu will address the audience.

Princess Tea at the Carousel Museum  (1,253 Views)


ROYAL TEA AT THE NEW ENGLAND CAROUSEL MUSEUM

Hear ye, hear ye! All little royals across the land are invited to enjoy an afternoon of magic and fantasy at New England Carousel Museum’s and Bushnell Park Carousel’s Princess Teas. These enchanted tea parties for children and their caregivers will feature cookies and juices, wand craft, story time, carousel rides, balloon animals and more. The fairy-tale will continue with a royal meet and greet and photo opportunity with a special guest princess.

Special Screening: Donovan's Reef by Ed Beloin @ BPL  (611 Views)


Donovan's Reef was Written by Bristol, CT native Ed Beloin. Beloin had a successful career writing for Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Jerry Lewis. Besides Donovan's Reef, Beloin's movie credits include GI Blues with Elvis Presley and Visit to a Small Planet with Jerry Lewis. Beloin was born April 1, 1910 in Bristol and passed away in Florida in 1992.

The Story:

Three World War II Navy veterans -- Donovan (John Wayne), Doc Dedham (Jack Warden) and Gilhooley (Lee Marvin) -- converge on the French Polynesian island of Haleakaloha and team up to deceive Dedham's prim daughter (Elizabeth Allen), who has just learned of her father's existence and his inherited stock from the company of which she is chairman, and hopes to find just cause to reclaim his shares. Dedham's marriage to an island woman serves to further threaten his share in the company.

Families with children ages three and under are invited to the weekly Playful Learners Playgroup every Friday from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Imagine Nation, A Museum Early Learning Center located at One Pleasant Street.

Playful Learners Playgroup is held in Imagine Nation’s Kinetic Studio and facilitated by Imagine Nation’s highly qualified teachers and museum educators. The program includes special toddler experiences including gross motor activities and workshops. Participants receive half-price admission and may enjoy access to all museum studios after the program.
