Andrew McKnight House Concert  (105,759 Views)

Andrew McKnight House Concert

November 10 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

For the address – please write to amybreak@aol.com or call 860.582.1061 and leave a message with your phone number.

Andrew McKnight returns again to the hometown of his grandparents and his father for an intimate house concert. Join us for music, storytelling and a warm fireplace on a cold evening.

Andrew is a nationally-acclaimed singer/songwriter and guitarist who celebrates rural America, weaving his masterfully crafted songs, humorous stories and poetic drama into a musical soundscape sketched with shades of Appalachia, tasteful slide and jazzy blues, feisty anthems, and rustic folk.

His recent exploits using genealogy and genetics to find and then visit Irish relatives have added a new dimension to his storytelling and have inspired him musically as well.

Andrew has performed at many prestigious venues including the Kennedy Center, the International Storytelling Center and the Atlanta Olympics, has been part of the Rocky Mountain, South Florida, Boston and Delmarva Folk Festival lineups, and a guest on NPR’s “Art of the Song” and “River City Folk” shows. He is a gifted workshop leader, an engaging speaker, and a longtime endorsing artist for Elixir Strings and Fairbuilt Guitars.

St. Paul Performing Arts Performs The Penny Dreadfuls  (109,160 Views)

St. Paul Catholic High School performing arts department is excited to present the onstage performance of The Penny Dreadfuls. Over 40 talented cast and crew members have been preparing for this production. These last few months they have been playing orphans and runaways who spend their nights and days working for the dastardly Professor as pickpockets and thieves.

They have got far more than mischief up their sleeves! Stolen goods end up at an antique and collectibles shop run by the despicable Bethesda Nightsoil and Dorthea Sprockett. The Professor’s partnership with these ladies has been very profitable until Mad Aggie, a former Penny Dreadful now disguised as the town lunatic, vows revenge on the Professor for sending him to jail for ten long years. And revenge was never sweeter! Meanwhile, the Professor’s bizarre family, who thinks he’s a respectable businessman, comes for an unwelcome visit but the Professor has mysteriously disappeared. His family becomes suspicious and so does his girlfriend, Lola Foxglove. They all suspect Bethesda and Dorthea of doing him in. When the Professor finally does make an appearance, his desperate cruelty shocks even the ladies.
This is a fast-paced, comic play reminiscent of Dickens’ “Oliver Twist.” As in Dickens’ novel, all villains get their due. The Penny Dreadfuls opens on Friday, November 16th and runs through Sunday, November 18th at the St. Paul Catholic High School’s Performing Arts Theater. Performances are at 7pm Friday and Saturday with a 2pm matinee on Sunday.

Tickets go on sale Friday, October 26th and can be purchased online at www.spchs.com.

St. Paul Performing Arts Performs The Penny Dreadfuls  (109,307 Views)
