FREE Artist Reception - Art of Bernard Jucevics  (8,953 Views)

1-3pm
Light Refreshments Provided

Location:
Harry C. Barnes Memorial Nature Center
175 Shrub Road
Bristol, CT 06010

Bernard Jucevics was born in Eastern Europe in 1939. He is a self-taught landscape artist who paints primarily in acrylics. He couples his passion for art with his love for nature in order to create a wide variety of landscape paintings. A country meadow, a forest, or the setting sun provides all the inspiration he needs to transform a blank canvas into a work of art.

Bernard has had his work displayed in a variety of settings. He has successfully sold his art through hospital auxiliaries and he has also been featured in various galleries throughout Litchfield County. He was also the first place winner in an art contest presented by the Blick Art supply company. In addition, Bernard donates some of his artwork to fundraisers and other humanitarian causes.

Bernard is always seeking new techniques that will further improve his artistry. He enjoys creating atmospheric paintings that draw you into the beauty of nature. His passion for painting has been a meaningful part of his retirement and his later life development as an artist is inspirational. It serves as a reminder that creativity can blossom at any age.

Coconuts at the Carousel Museum  (14,814 Views)

Friday, September 21
7:00 - 10:30 pm
$20 per person

For the past forty years COCONUTS, have been entertaining audiences from Cape Cod to the Florida Keys with their unique blend of music and humor. Their show is a fast-paced mix of rock song parodies, comedy numbers, sing-alongs, and straight up rock 'n' roll mostly from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

COCONUTS are bringing their show to the Carousel Museum on Friday, September 21 from 7:00 - 10:30 pm. $20 tickets are on sale now and sales benefit the New England Carousel Museum. Grab a group of friends and laugh, dance and support this one of a kind organization on a one of a kind evening.

COCONUTS parodies poke gentle fun at everything from medicine and technology to the many aspects of growing older, and although geared toward a Baby Boomer crowd, their humor appeals to younger and older folk as well. Be warned: sometimes their material is a bit risqué, but it's all in good fun. Audience participation is heartily encouraged and by the end of the night everybody is "in the band". Comments frequently heard after a COCONUTS show are "I haven't laughed this much in years!" and "where do guys your age get all that energy?" The three original Nuts will be joined for this special performance by the exceptional talents of Joey DeCarlo on lead guitar and Mike Savenelli on drums. So sit back and relax, then sing along and clap your hands, then get up and dance with COCONUTS!

Tickets and tables of 8 can be purchased online or by calling

Twin Peaks: Bristol Natives--Emily Holcombe & George Dudley Seymour, Champions of Connecticut's Heritage & Preservation  (1,002 Views)

1:00 PM
Presented by Bill Hosley....Contemporaries and Bristol, CT natives, Seymour and Holcombe were two of the greatest and most visionary champions for historic preservation and state and local history Connecticut ever had. Seymour (1859-1941) was a Progressive Era visionary whose advocacy and affection for Connecticut’s cultural and physical environment has never been improved upon. Mrs. Holcombe was a preservationist, activist, collector, museum-maker, civic visionary, and advocate for Connecticut State Pride. Bill Hosley’s presentation will show how their stories provide a distant mirror to guide us in how to rekindle civic attachment and state pride. Mr. Hosley is a cultural resource development and marketing consultant, social media expert, historian, writer, and photographer. Passionate about local history and historic preservation, Bill has studied, lectured and advised museums and heritage destinations around the country. Bill has also served as a content specialist for PBS, BBC and CPTV film documentaries. Please call the library to register in advance.FREE
