Window on Moscow 1: Music or Muddle: The Soviet Government Takes Control

October 2, 2019 @ 6:30 PM
Bristol Public Library
5 High Street
Bristol, CT

The story of the clash between Russia’s great composers and the Communist authorities told by Jeffrey Engel, Adjunct Professor at Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

In the first program of our A Window on Moscow series, Jeffrey Engel tells the story of Russian music before and after the Bolshevik Revolution and Soviet interference. Russia had no art music of its own until the advent of the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. Russian and Soviet composers, would contribute important works to the popular international repertory. During the early 1930’s, however, their freedom to create came to an end.

2019 Fall CERT Basic Class – Bristol, CT

Bristol CERT is sponsoring a Basic Training for CERT, for people who would like to be trained in the skills needed to be prepared to help when emergencies and disasters affect their communities, families, and the workplace.

To everyone interested, please tell your friends, family, and coworkers.
Additional seats are available for this class!

This class is free, and open to everyone, regardless of age, residency, or experience.

Additionally, becoming "CERT Certified" will allow you to join Bristol CERT, or any other CERT team in Connecticut after your training. This class is offered to the public without obligation. You will also receive additional preparedness materials and equipment as part of attending this class.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to focus on more complex tasks. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters is built and enhanced.

Anyone interested should come to class on Thursday, October 3rd at 6:30pm - 9:30pm

Fire Station #4, 18 Vincent P Kelly Road, Bristol, CT 06010 – walk-ins welcome.

Vintage Baseball Game at Muzzy Field

Vintage Baseball Game at Muzzy Field
October 13 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

The 2019 John P. Martin All-Star Series of Historical and Classic Baseball to benefit ALS Research returns to Muzzy Field in Bristol, CT on Sunday October 13th.
This year’s edition of the Fall Classic will showcase two contests of 1864 Base Ball at 10 and 11:30am followed by a re-creation of the 1986 MLB All-Star Game at 1pm.
50 players from 27 teams across 9 states in the National Historical Base Ball project will once again descend upon Bristol for a day of sportsmanship and celebration of the early game. Players will step through time and convert to modern baseball in the afternoon session to underscore the differences from an earlier style of play.
The event is used to raise funding and awareness of ALS Research in the name of long-time NESN videographer John Patrick Martin who succumbed to his illness on the day of our 2018 event. While admission is free and open to the public, we kindly ask attendees to make a gift to ALS One through our donation portal.
