Headstone Dedication Ceremony – 1 pm at West Cemetery, Bristol, CT
Aretas Culver was a Bristol native who volunteered in the Civil War. He served with the ill-fated CT 16th Infantry at Antietam and perished from his treatment as a POW
at Andersonville. With the assistance of Veterans Strong Community Center, the family has been able to obtain a new headstone to replace the original stone that was weathered and worn.
Followed by Andrew McKnight in Concert – 6 pm at Bristol Historical Society, 98 Summer St., Bristol
Andrew McKnight is a singer/songwriter and 3rd great grandson of Aretas Culver. He uncovered his story researching his forthcoming album and book Treasures in My Chest. His grandmother Madeleine McKnight was a lifelong Bristol native and volunteered at BHS for many years. Learn more at www.AndrewMcKnight.net $10 admission to support BHS

Coloring Craze Party at the Bristol Historical Society continues on January 18th from 7-9 pm. Bring your coloring books and supplies and we supply the wine and cheese. The Historical Society is located at 98 Summer Street Bristol, $5 entrance fee, pre-registration is required, but walk-ins are welcome. 2019 dates are: January 18th, February 15th, March 15th, April 12th, May 17th, June 21st, July 19th, August 16th, November 15th and December 13th (Christmas Ugly Sweater Nite)

Registration requested: by calling BHS at 860 583-6309. Please specify date you wish to attend Members are free; all others $5. Refreshments provided, Handicap accessible; parking behind building At the program, the New Departure Holiday Ornament and booklet regarding New Departure written by Bob Adamczyk will be available for sale.
Presenter: Bob Adamczyk, Bristol Historian and BHS member. His previous programs have always been considered excellent by those attending. “The social aspects of the New Departure Company prior to unions will be described and the times when employees were encouraged to create a social environment within the company will be discussed. Such areas as sporting events, musical activities and clubs offered at New Departure will also be included.”
Bob asks that people bring their memories of this company to share.
