Ice Fishing is a great way to spend time outdoors with family and friends while getting some fresh air and exercise! The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) program offers this FREE ice fishing class. This program's introductory ice fishing class will teach you everything you need to know to start ice fishing. Topics discussed include: how to dress for the cold, ice safety, how to tie a strong knot, what baits to use, what fish you will catch, how to drill a hole in the ice and use a tip-up and jig rod, and much more!

Classes are designed for adults and families (children ages 8 and up) and consist of two hours of classroom instruction with demonstrations. *If ice conditions are safe , all students are then invited to join us on the lake for an ice fishing trip to try their new skills! The CARE program will provide ice fishing equipment to borrow and bait for the fishing trip. Valid fishing license is required for those 16 years and older to fish. Class will be taught by state certified fishing Instructor from DEEP CARE program.

*Ice fishing trip dependent on safe ice; classroom session will run regardless of ice conditions. Please dress appropriately for fishing trip – rubber boots, lots of layers...

FREE Artist Reception - “Frolic” by Elizabeth Ann McNally

Sunday, February 17, 2019
3-5pm

Location:
Harry C. Barnes Memorial Nature Center
175 Shrub Road
Bristol, CT 06010

Join us for a free exhibit of artwork that will warm you this winter with smiles and good humor! Elizabeth Ann McNally is an artist and printmaker whose narrative work explores the nature of animals in a fun whimsical way. Her abstract art explores the color relationships reflected in the natural world focusing on the properties of the material and compositional elements.

Enjoy a botanical printmaking demonstration with collagraph printmaking using texture and collage to create a uniquely different kind of print. Elizabeth will walk you through how to create, ink, and print a collagraph plate created from easily accessed materials such as pressed leaves and flowers.

Elizabeth Ann McNally is an artist and printmaker residing in New Britain. She chooses to work in both narrative and nonrepresentational content. Key elements in her narrative work are animals, humor, and the graphic use of line. In her nonrepresentational art, color, line, pattern and the properties of the material and medium are the sole focus of compositions. Light refreshments provided.

For more information, please call (860) 583-1234 or email: eoconnell@elcct.org
