Women & Girls’ Fund of Main Street Community Foundation’s 18th Annual Wonder of Women Sponsorship Opportunities   (11,398 Views)

Women & Girls’ Fund of Main Street Community Foundation’s 18th Annual Wonder of Women Sponsorship Opportunities

April 23 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Each spring, hundreds of area women and men gather at the annual WOW event in support of the mission of the Women & Girls’ Fund — to improve the quality of life for all women and girls in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott. The proceeds from the event benefit the grant awards made by the Fund every fall. Last year the Fund awarded over $50,000 to local organizations and causes.
The 18th annual WOW event will feature Colleen Kelly Alexander as the guest speaker. Colleen is a lifelong athlete and motivational speaker who inspires positive change, contribution, determination and actionable gratitude. The evening will also highlight stories directly from individuals impacted by the Fund’s grantmaking.
Seats for this year’s event are $60 and are now available by sending a check to Main Street Community Foundation, P.O. Box 2702, Bristol, CT 06010.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for the Women & Girls’ Fund of Main Street Community Foundation’s 18th Annual Wonder of Women Event. Sponsorship of the Wonder of Women (WOW) event provides benefits and recognition to the sponsors and, at the same time, increases the amount of funding available to programs supporting women and girls in your communities. Sponsorship options range from Bronze ($150) up to Premier ($10,000, which includes 20 reserved seats). For more information about sponsorship opportunities, click here. To request a full sponsorship package, please contact Samantha Rajotte at 860-583-6363 or samantha@mainstreetfoundation.org.
The Wonder of Women event will take place on Tuesday, April 23rd from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.

Third Thursday Program: “Radium Girls”   (11,805 Views)

Third Thursday Program: “Radium Girls”
April 25 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Colleen Nicastro, Director of Interpretation for the American Clock & Watch Museum, will present her program on the Radium Dial Painters: Their Fatal Brush with Death, on Thursday, April 25 at 7 pm. Behind the story of the Clock & Watch industries’ success, lies a tragic story of employee sacrifice. For a time, little was known about the toxic working conditions of the young women in the dial painting industry. Their story was eventually heard, but many did not live to see that day.
This is a program not to be missed! Program is free to members, and $5 for non-members.

FREE Artist Reception - Artwork by Vriginia Briatico  (6,917 Views)

3-5pm
Light refreshments provided.

Location:
Harry C. Barnes Memorial Nature Center
175 Shrub Road
Bristol, CT 06010

Virginia Briatico of Unionville looks no further than her living room window overlooking Lake Garda to find inspiration for her finely detailed pastel pencil paintings of birds, flowers and furry creatures. Briatico discovered her love of working with pastel pencils after taking a workshop at the Farmington River Art Studio. And then there was no turning back.

The artist says she works from digital photographs of nature captured with her Canon Powershot camera. “I’ll often see waterfowl on the lake through my living room window, and take off in my kayak to photograph them,” Briatico says. Examples of those sightings include ospreys, broad-winged hawks, great blue herons, belted kingfishers, mallards and mergansers. All are subjects of her pastel paintings, but Briatico says her favorite wildlife portraits are those she has created of various species of owls that she has photographed at various locations over time.

Virginia Briatico’s artwork will remain on display at Barnes Nature Center until June 1st.
