The New England Carousel Museum once again brings you the annual dinner meeting at Lake Compounce on Friday, September 6, 2019. The Crocodile Club will celebrate its 138th reunion dinner with its unique gathering of individuals. Speakers put aside political differences to celebrate this important part of history and the public is invited to join.
There will be direct transportation to and from the Ballroom as Lake Compounce will be closed for the season. As a special treat, Crocodile guests will be able to ride the Carousel from 12 – 1 pm. Festivities will begin with the social hour at noon (when crocodile tears are shed) with a beer and wine cash bar. During dinner, a lively program with CT’s politicos as guest speakers will follow. NO serious political speeches are allowed.
Tickets, available at the Carousel Museum, are $55 each or $60 at the door.
Stop in to purchase your ticket, call the Museum to put it on your credit card, or mail to the Crocodile Club, c/o Carousel Museum, 95 Riverside Ave., Bristol, CT 06010. Connecticut Author, veteran and MD, Charles McNair was nineteen when he enlisted and was sent to Vietnam as an Operating Room Tech. at the 45th Surgical Hospital, Tay Ninh, RVN. McNair wrote his novel Soldiers of a Foreign War from an enlisted soldier’s point of view (American and Vietnamese) based his own experience of the war in all it’s conflicted complexity. The novel is unique in its many perspectives and has been very well received. The book talk will consist of readings from the novel, discussion of his own experiences and answering questions from the audience. Book signing to follow. A Vietnam 50th Commemorative program.

The 2019 Miss Mum competition will be held on Friday, September 13th at Chippens Hill Middle School. Doors open at 6:30 for the 7:00 p.m. event.
Applicants from Bristol, Forestville, Plainville, Plymouth, Terryville, and Wolcott will by vying for the titles of Miss Mum, Junior Miss Mum, Miss Mum Mini, and Petite Miss Mum. Contestants will be judged based on three on-stage appearances and for Miss Mum on an essay submission.
The event will be produced by Jessica Leopizzo of the Nutmeg Performing Arts Center and the Emcee will be Amy Vanderoef, a former Miss Mum, Miss Bristol, and Miss Connecticut and currently a lifestyle expert at WFAA Television in Texas.

Workshops to bring out your inner artist:
10:30 am - Observational Drawing – Crested Gecko – Learn about crested geckos as you use the elements of art and your powers of observation to draw a live creature – Art Studio
11:30 am – Collage – This type of art has been used for many years by Master Artists like Picasso, bring a picture or newspaper clipping or poem or anything that is interesting to you to incorporate into your collage! – Art Studio
12:30 pm – Watercolor Landscapes – Learn watercolor techniques to create a beautiful landscape. You will learn the techniques, but as the Artist, you will choose your colors! – Art Studio
1:30 pm – Miniature Sculpture – Using plaster craft, create a miniature sculpture of a bird or fruit or a little volcano or something else that is interesting to you. When it dries you can paint it or color it! – Art Studio
2:30 pm – Observational Drawing – Cats and Dogs – Using manikins, learn to draw cats and dogs. You can add different features such as long hair or a fluffy tail to personalize your drawing! – Art Studio
