Celebrate the fall opening of our museum studios with free admission for Grandparents and a special lineup of workshops to bring families together!

10:30 am – Family Trees – Together, create your Family Tree – Was everyone from Connecticut? How many Aunts do you have? – Art Studio

11:30 am – Family Recipes! - Most Families have recipes that are handed down for generations, together you can make Chef Alie’s recipe for salad dressing and try your creation with some fresh veggies! – Main Event Room

1:30 pm - Build a Birdhouse – Our feathered friends will need a warm place this winter! Build and decorate a Bird House together and take it home! – Art Studio

Free admission for Grandparents, admission for children and other adults is $10 per person ages 1+, FREE for members.

Imagine Nation, A Museum Early Learning Center will open its doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticketholders on Saturday September 21, 2019 as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 15th annual Museum Day, a national celebration of boundless curiosity in which participating museums emulate the free admission policy at the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based museums.

Museum Day tickets are required for this event. Free tickets are available for download at Smithsonian.com/museumday

Visitors who present a Museum Day ticket will gain free entrance for two at a participating venue of their choice on September 21, 2019. One ticket is permitted per email address and tickets may only be used at one location.

Additional guests not included in the Museum Day ticketing will be charged regular admission rates. A list of participating museums, which will be continually updated as more museums continue to register, can be found at Smithsonian.com/museumday/search. Home School Day at Imagine Nation returns on September 26th!

Workshops to bring out your inner artist:

10:30 am - Observational Drawing – Crested Gecko – Learn about crested geckos as you use the elements of art and your powers of observation to draw a live creature – Art Studio

11:30 am – Collage – This type of art has been used for many years by Master Artists like Picasso, bring a picture or newspaper clipping or poem or anything that is interesting to you to incorporate into your collage! – Art Studio

12:30 pm – Watercolor Landscapes – Learn watercolor techniques to create a beautiful landscape. You will learn the techniques, but as the Artist, you will choose your colors! – Art Studio

1:30 pm – Miniature Sculpture – Using plaster craft, create a miniature sculpture of a bird or fruit or a little volcano or something else that is interesting to you. When it dries you can paint it or color it! – Art Studio

2:30 pm – Observational Drawing – Cats and Dogs – Using manikins, learn to draw cats and dogs. You can add different features such as long hair or a fluffy tail to personalize your drawing! – Art Studio

Workshops space is limited to the first 25 children to arrive to each workshop.

Walk-in rate: $10 per person ages 1+
All participants must pre-register and submit payment by Monday, September 23rd to receive the special admission rate. No Refunds will be provided.

Please note that ACM reciprocal and Library passes are accepted for this event. (ACM/Library discounts are based on full-priced admission of $10/ per person)

Workshops are limited to the first 25 participants- purchasing a ticket in advance ensures a discounted rate, but does not guarantee a seat in a workshops.

Our museum studios are designed for children ages 2-8. Older and younger siblings are welcome to attend!
