Adam Jackson: The True Story of an Enslaved Man in Connecticut

2:00 PM

For Black History Month, this presentation by Connecticut Landmarks focuses on the life of Adam Jackson, an enslaved farmer purchased by Joshua Hempsted in 1727. Hempsted’s home, built in 1678, is the oldest surviving structure in New London. Hempsted’s diary, which he kept from 1711 until his death in 1758, documents daily life and includes information about the work of Adam Jackson, providing a rare window into early New England slavery. Please register by calling the library at 860-584-7790.
