Friends of the Bristol Library Annual Winter Book Sale

Friends of the Bristol Library Annual Winter Book Sale
March 3 @ 12:00 am - March 6 @ 12:00 am

The Friends of the Bristol Public Library will hold its annual Winter Used Book Sale from Wednesday, March 2 to Sunday, March 6 in the meeting rooms in the lower level of the Bristol Library, 5 High Street, Bristol. The sale includes more than six thousand gently used hardcover and softcover books, DVDs, audio books and CDs. Books are priced from $.25 to $2.00, and this year we have a big selection of children’s books as well as a large collection of specially priced books.

The sale opens with Preview Night (a $5.00 admission fee applies) on Wednesday, March 2 from 3:00 to 7:00PM. Regular sale hours (free admission) are Thursday, March 3 from 9:00AM to 7:00PM; Friday, March 4 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM; Saturday, March 5 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM; Sunday, March 6 from 1:00 to 3:00PM. Books will be sold at half-price all day Saturday, and the sale closes on Sunday with a fill-the-bag sale ($5.00 for a brown bag and $3.00 for a plastic bag) from 1:00 to 3:00PM. Specially priced books are not included in the half-price and bag sales.

The Bristol Public Library follows CDC Covid guidelines at the time of the event. Masks must be worn while in attendance at the book sale.

The Winter Used Book Sale is the Friends’ primary fundraising event, and the proceeds help provide the Bristol libraries with items and services not included in the annual budget, such as summer reading programs for adults, teens and children, museum passes, and grants for special programs. All of the items in the sale were donated by community members, and the Friends appreciate the generosity that makes this fundraiser possible.

Ireland 1920: Civil War pits bothers and families against each other.

Winner of the PALME D’OR at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.

About this event
In 1920, rural Ireland is the vicious battlefield of republican rebels against the British security forces and Irish Unionist population who oppose them, a recipe for mutual cruelty. Medical graduate Damien O’Donovan always gave priority to his socialist ideals and simply helping people in need. Just when he’s leaving Ireland to work in a highly reputed London hospital, witnessing gross abuse of commoners changes his mind. he returns and joins the local IRA brigade, commanded by his brother Teddy, and adopts the merciless logic of civil war, while Teddy mellows by experiencing first-hand endless suffering. When IRA leaders negotiate an autonomous Free State under the British crown, Teddy defends the pragmatic best possible deal at this stage. Damien however joins the large seceding faction which holds nothing less than a socialist republic will do. The result is another civil war, bloodily opposing former Irish comrades in arms, even the brothers.—KGF Vissers (IMDB)

Not Rated. Please note: Contains intense scenes, violence and profanity.

No charge. RSVP: www.bristollib.com, 860.584.7787 x 3 or visit the library.
