Preservation Day at BHS!
April 27 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

In celebration of Preservation Week (April 21-27, 2019) we encourage Bristol residents to come to the Bristol Historical Society on Saturday, April 27th between the hours of 10am –2pm and bring any items they wish to donate or allow us to copy for our collection.
Created by the American Library Association and partner organizations in 2010, Preservation Week raises awareness in the archival community. Memories and treasures should last a lifetime and be passed on. It inspires actions to preserve personal, family and community collections and also raises awareness the role libraries and historical societies play in providing on going preservation and information.

FREE Artist Reception - Artwork by Vriginia Briatico  (658 Views)

3-5pm
Light refreshments provided.

Location:
Harry C. Barnes Memorial Nature Center
175 Shrub Road
Bristol, CT 06010

Virginia Briatico of Unionville looks no further than her living room window overlooking Lake Garda to find inspiration for her finely detailed pastel pencil paintings of birds, flowers and furry creatures. Briatico discovered her love of working with pastel pencils after taking a workshop at the Farmington River Art Studio. And then there was no turning back.

The artist says she works from digital photographs of nature captured with her Canon Powershot camera. “I’ll often see waterfowl on the lake through my living room window, and take off in my kayak to photograph them,” Briatico says. Examples of those sightings include ospreys, broad-winged hawks, great blue herons, belted kingfishers, mallards and mergansers. All are subjects of her pastel paintings, but Briatico says her favorite wildlife portraits are those she has created of various species of owls that she has photographed at various locations over time.

Virginia Briatico’s artwork will remain on display at Barnes Nature Center until June 1st.
